Our philosophy Our philosophy is simple - to provide fresh food, in season, delivered locally to our customers for a fair price. Our scheme is as flexible as possible to ensure it meets our customers' needs. Quality and freshness We like to eat fruit and vegetables that are fresh and have been grown in the traditional way. We believe all food should be free from harmful chemicals and pesticides so that we can be confident we are eating food that is good for us. We grow our vegetables like you would. We don’t plant genetically modified crops and we only use natural compost and organic waste as fertilisers. We don’t spray any of our crops with harmful pesticides, we only use the kind of products you might get from the garden centre to deter slugs, and other pests. We pick most of our own fruit and vegetables on the day that we deliver it. That way, it will taste better and be as fresh as it can be. Some products, like onions, potatoes and apples, that crop all at once may be delivered from 'store' until stocks run out. We produce our own pork and eggs from carefully reared animals so that we know what we are eating. Our animals are fed on quality foodstuffs and allowed to live natural outdoor lives to provide us with the best tasting meat and eggs. Our other products, like jams, marmalades, pickles, etc., are all home-made in the traditional way at Arcadia, usually from our own surplus produce. We don't add any extra colouring or chemical preservatives - we don't need to! We think that’s how all good food should be produced and our customers regularly tell us how much better it tastes than supermarket alternatives. As far as is practicable we try to ensure that produce we buy in comes from suppliers with a similar approach. Local We believe that we all have a responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment, to reduce the harmful effect of transporting food over long distances and unnecessarily contributing to global warming. Some of the food we deliver is produced on our smallholding at Arcadia in Tenterden. We also use other producers (mainly farms in Kent) to supplement the contents of your box to ensure you get the supplies we have promised. We will only use produce from other countries if there is no alternative (e.g. we are buying bananas or oranges!). Fair Value We believe that good food does not have to cost a fortune! Our prices are competitive with the best produce available from supermarkets and we are cheaper than all of the national box schemes. We deliver for free. Flexibility We believe we have created the most flexible veg box scheme in existence! Customers can - determine which vegetables are included in their boxes by registering their preferences when they sign up. These can be updated at any time - vary the 'standard' quantities we provide to match the amounts they need - tell us if they don't need a particular vegetable (e.g. onions) in their box this week if they've already got enough. The boxes we create each week are completely personalised for the person/family we are delivering to. Or ..... if you prefer to select your own fruit and veg each week - you can do this by creating your own order using the "Your Choice" facility.
